Licence as Auctioneer in Malta


A License issued for an individual to act as an Auctioneer shall only be issued by the Trade Licences Unit to applicants who must be not less than eighteen years old and be of good moral character and not have within the last three (3) years been convicted of a criminal act relating to fraud or misappropriation of money or other articles.

In addition, the applicant must also be knowledgeable of the national auctioneering legislation and procedure, national laws and regulations relating to antiques and cultural heritage, and relevant general commercial practice.
The applicant must provide the following information, as required in the Application Form:

Title, Name and Surname;
ID Card No/Passport No;
- Address of residence in Malta;
Telephone, Mobile and email address.

If the applicant is acting on behalf of a Company or a Commercial Partnership, the following information will also be required:

Name of Company or Commercial Partership;
Company Registration No;
Company’s VAT No.

The application to act as an Auctioneer shall be accompanied by:

Conduct Certificate (Police);
Copy of Passport or Residence Permit (if applicant is not of Maltese nationality);
- Copy of Work Permit;
Two passport-size photographs; and
A Board Resolution signed by the Company Secretary authorising the applicant to represent the Company.

The Trade Licensing Unit shall notify the Auctioneer’s Board of the application within five (5) working days and shall issue the Licence within five (5) working days from being notified of the Board’s decision. 

Licence fee

€300 per annum in respect of the consideration by the Auctioneers Board on submitting the application and €40 per annum thereafter if a licence is granted.
